Community APP Mentorship: Use of Bispecifics in Myeloma
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to participate in an upcoming mentorship program.
Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and especially those in community settings, often face limited access to specialized expertise in rapidly evolving fields like multiple myeloma (MM), yet most patients receive their care locally. Novel therapies which target the B-Cell Maturation Antigen (BCMA) are highly effective yet can be daunting for the APP to administer, monitor and manage. Therefore, the International Myeloma Foundation and Nurse Leadership Board (NLB) members have created a structured mentorship program that pairs community APPs with experienced academic clinicians. The content directly addresses these gaps by facilitating practical, real-time learning, and reinforcing adoption of standardized protocols to effectively manage patients.
The program employs a reciprocal, collaborative peer-mentorship model designed to integrate real-world experience in MM care with BCMA-targeted bispecific therapy. In just 8 short weeks, mentees will engage in a curriculum that combines three key components: self-guided learning modules, mentor-led case discussions, and a practice-based project culminating in a final presentation. Each mentee is paired one-to-one with an experienced academic mentor to receive personalized guidance.
Learning Objectives:
- Enhance clinical knowledge and skills of community-based APPs in initiating and managing BCMA-targeted bispecific therapies, including step-up dosing, early toxicity recognition, infection prevention, and patient education.
- Facilitate structured mentorship by pairing community APPs with experienced academic clinicians to provide ongoing guidance, case-based learning, and real-time support for complex clinical decision-making.
- Strengthen care coordination and transitions of care by implementing standardized protocols and communication pathways that ensure safe, continuous management of patients moving between academic and community oncology settings
Recruitment for this program will take place July 1-August 31st, 2026, with the first cohort beginning in September.
